Maytag Gemini Double Oven Electric Range Troubleshooting

Maytag has some of the best home appliances in the market, and they sure didn’t disappoint with the Gemini double oven electric range. It is durable and reliable, with features like EvenAir true convection heating, Power Burners and Power Preheat to enjoy dinner faster. However, like many other appliances, users can run into trouble from time to time when running this machine. Here is a troubleshooting and how-to-guide to address some of the queries users may have on this stove.

Where is the Model Number on My Maytag Gemini Double Oven?

It is important to make a note of your product model and serial numbers for warranty, repair and replacement parts, and future reference. These are found on the serial plate, which is located behind the control panel of your oven. You can view them by rotating the serial plates up.

How Do I Clean My Maytag Gemini Oven?

The self-cleaning cycle uses very high temperatures, burning soil to a powdery ash. Before you start, you need to prepare the range by:

  • Removing the broiler pan, grid, bakeware and cookware, oven racks, all cooking utensils, and aluminum foil.
  • Cleaning inside the door edge and the 1½ ” area around the inside oven cavity frame using a damp cloth. Ensure you don’t move or bend the gasket.
  • Wiping out any loose soil to reduce smoke and avoid damage.
  • Removing plastic items from the cooktop to avoid melting.

Once you have done all this, follow these steps to self-clean:

  • Close the oven doors and press the SELF CLEAN button.
  • Press the Time/Temp “+” or “-“ keypad to choose the oven you want to clean.

  • Then press START. The oven doors will lock automatically until the self-cleaning cycle is complete and the oven cools.
  • When the oven is completely cooled, remove ash with a damp cloth.

Clean food spills as soon as the entire range is cool. Avoid using abrasive cleaners on the sensitive parts and surfaces.

Can You Stop a Self-Cleaning Oven Mid Cycle?

You can stop the self-cleaning cycle at any time by pressing CANCEL LOWER or CANCEL UPPER. However, the oven doors will remain locked if the temperature is too high. When you see “LOCK” on the display, do not try to force the doors open to avoid damaging the doors.

How Do You Change the Oven Element on a Maytag Gemini?

After you have acquired the correct part for your stove, you can then proceed to change the oven element. Here is how to go about it:

  • First, disconnect power to the range by unplugging or shutting the breaker off at the electrical panel.
  • Open the oven door and remove the screws securing the stop top to the frame using a Phillips head screwdriver.

If the oven door is locked when starting or using the oven, there are several things you can do to see if it unlocks:

  • Press CANCEL/OFF key to start a latch reset. Wait about 20-30 seconds and then open door.
  • Let the oven cool for about 30-90 minutes. Unlock the door by moving the latch arm to the left.
  • Turn off the power to the range at the circuit breaker or fuse box for one minute. Then, turn the power back on.

If the door is locked during the self-clean cycle there are several things you can try to unlock it:

  • If your oven clean cycle was started by mistake, press CANCEL/OFF key. The oven will need to cool to about 200F before the oven door unlocks.
  • Give the oven about 30-90 minutes to cool and then move the latch arm to the left to unlock the door.
  • If power was interrupted during the self-clean cycle and the cycle didn’t resume, press SELF CLEAN, then press CANCEL. Wait for some minutes and then try to start the cycle again.

How Do You Delay Start on a Maytag Gemini Double Oven?

Delayed start keypad is used to enter the starting time for an oven function with a delayed start.

To set a delayed timed cook:

  • Press DELAYED START.
  • Press the Time/Temp “+”or”-“keypad to enter the hours and/or minutes you wish to delay the start time. To scroll quickly, press and hold the keypad.
  • Press the keypad for any cooking function except Keep Warm.
  • Press the Time/Temp “+”or”-“keypad to set the temperature you want. Note that the temperature won’t go past the allowable maximum and minimum.
  • Press START or COOK TIME.
  • Press the Time/Temp “+”or”-“keypad to enter the length of time to cook.
  • Press START. The oven will turn on automatically when the start time is reached. You can change the temperature and/or time settings after the delay countdown by repeating the above steps. Press START between steps 4 and 5 to continue making changes when resetting the time and temperature.
  • Press CANCEL to clear the display for the desired oven.

To delay start self-clean:

  • Close the oven doors and then press START.
  • Press the Time/Temp “+”or”-“keypad to choose the desired oven.
  • Press the Time/Temp “+”or”-“keypad to enter the amount of time you want to delay the start.
  • Press SELF CLEAN.
  • Press the Time/Temp “+”or”-“keypad to choose the desired clean level.
  • Press START. The door will lock automatically after the delay start the countdown.
  • When the oven is completely cooled and doors unlocked, remove the ash with a damp cloth.

How Do You Calibrate a Maytag Gemini Double Oven?

If you have determined your oven needs to be calibrated, here are the most methods for calibration. Each method is specific to a particular range, so you may need to try to determine the correct one for your model.

Does your control has settings, options, or tools button?

  • Toggle through the settings and choose either oven calibration or temperature calibration depending on your model.
  • Follow the instructions displayed to increase or decrease oven temperature.
  • Save the adjustment by pressing START, or press Cancel to exit without change.

If you press and hold Time/Temp “+” or”-“keypad for 5 seconds does your oven display the current setting, say “00”or “0oF CAL”?

If you press and hold BAKE for 5 seconds does your oven display indicate the current calibration, e.g “00”?

  • Press Time/Temp “+”or”-“keypad to increase or decrease the temperature in 10oF (6oC) amounts. The adjustment can be set between 30oF and -30oF (17oC and -17oC).
  • Press START to save the adjustment. Press Cancel to exit without change.

How Do You Set the Clock on a Maytag Gemini Stove?

To set the clock:

  • Press “Clock”
  • The press Time/Temp “+”or”-“keypad until the desired time is displayed.
  • Then press “Start” to confirm.

How Do You Lift the Top of a Maytag Gas Stove?

To access the inside of the control area of your Maytag gas range for troubleshooting or repairs, you may need to lift the top. Fortunately it’s an easy DIY that doesn’t require many tools.

  • Start by shutting off the gas supply.
  • Remove the burner grates, caps and bases.
  • If in your model the base is attached with screws, make sure you put them somewhere you can find them easily and aren’t knocked down accidentally.
  • After removing the bases, remove the burner tubes screws if necessary. You should now be able to raise the lift top.
  • Release the spring clips, located in the front or on the back of the oven, by inserting a putty knife between the top and the clips as you start picking up the lift top.
  • Depending on your model, the lift top can now be removed or propped open.

Maytag Gemini Double Oven Igniter Replacement Guide

After acquiring the correct part for your range, you can quickly and easily replace the igniter without professional assistance by following these steps:

  • Start by shutting off power and gas to the range.
  • Remove all the cooktop grates, burner caps and burner heads. Use a 1/4-inch screwdriver to remove any screws securing the gas burner heads in place.
  • Remove the screws securing the top of the cooktop to the top of burner orifice holders. Pop the cooktop out of the mounting clips by inserting a stiff putty knife between the front of the range frame and cooktop, and pushing the tool into the gap.
  • Lift the top of the cooktop and then remove the cooktop carefully without disturbing the burner orifice holders. Set the cooktop aside.
  • Then carefully disconnect the wire attached to bottom of the spark igniter electrode. Release the metal clip from the gas burner orifice holder bottom and remove the clip.
  • Now remove the spark igniter electrode from the orifice holder assembly and discard it.
  • Install the new igniter by pushing it into the orifice holder assembly and fasten it with the metal clip. Push the wire onto the connection spade under the new electrode.
  • Re-attach the cooktop, inserting and tightening all the screws.
  • Re-install the burner heads, burner caps, and grates into their correct locations and tightly screw them into place.
  • Plug the range back into the power outlet and open the gas supply valve.
