Bryant Air Conditioner Troubleshooting
Bryant AC’s typically comprise the big condenser unit on the outside, with the fan and grille on the top, and the inside furnace part that circulates the cold air through the ductwork. These two distinct pieces of equipment are connected by pipes and hoses. If you are having trouble with your Bryant central air conditioning unit, there are a number of things you can try to troubleshoot before contacting Bryant customer service or a technician.
Make sure the thermostat is set to the “cool” position
Check thermostat position and set it to the “cool” position. The air conditioner must be set to “cool” or “automatic” instead of heat position, even if the thermostat is set to a low temperature.
Check condenser unit
Go outside and see if the AC’s condenser is running. It should be making a sound from time to time. If not, check your fuse panel or breaker box for any fault. Most likely it is mounted on an outside wall.
Make sure the disconnect switch is turned ON
The Bryant condenser has its own disconnect switch. It is normally a grey 8”wide by 16”high by 4”deep box located near the outdoor unit. Make sure it is in the “ON” position.
Check if the blower motor is running
Your air conditioner won’t cool if the blower motor in your furnace doesn’t work. It is the part that sends the air into the ductwork. Go back inside and establish if the blower is working properly. Check to make sure the switch at the furnace is in the “ON”.
Check if air filters are clean
Dirty air filters will impede airflow. Check in and around the Bryant furnace for the filters to if they are clean. Slide them out, and clean them thoroughly. A good vacuuming should do the trick. If there are particularly dirty ones, replace them.
Check if return grilles are blocked
Move furniture that could be blocking the return grilles at least 4” way to adequate air supply. Return grilles pull in new air to replace the cold air blown by the furnace into the house. These grilles get all the dirty air before it goes through your air filter. Make sure you also clean them regularly. Use a smaller vacuum attachment, most ideally with brush bristles, to brush off the dust and grime.
How to Find Your Bryant Air Conditioner Model Number
Knowing your AC’s model number helps you to troubleshoot any problems and makes it easier for your Bryant dealer to provide service. This number is usually listed in the owner’s manual or the paperwork you got when you bought the unit. You can also find it on the “rating plate” sticker on the air conditioner above the back-seated service valve connections.
