How to Clean a Floor Without a Mop
Deep cleaning usually happens once a week. This is the time you scrub and disinfect your floors.
Begin by clearing all the chairs and tables. You can place them on the chairs. Make sure you have wiped them beforehand. To get rid of all the grease and dust.
You might want to invest in furniture pads. They make moving furniture so much easier. While preventing your floors from getting scuffed. Especially if you have wood floors.
Then sweep the floors to get rid of all the debris, which can be caught underfoot as well as dragged around, which can cause scratches on the floor.
In case you use a vacuum, use the one with the hard floor attachment. Your frequency will depend on how messy the space is and how frequently it gets used.
After sweeping, pour chemical disinfection on the floor. I will start with my absolute favorite, VIM, which I pour sparingly around the floors.
Next, put water in two buckets of water. One put powdered soap like Ariel. The other put a few drops of disinfectant.
Pour the soapy water around the areas you had poured VIM. Then get to scrabbing. While pushing the water out.
Leave the soapy water on the floor for a few minutes. For the chemicals to do their thing.
Now to get to the most tedious part. Get a duster. It could be made of cotton. For example, an old t-shirt that’s torn. Or an old towel. They both soak in water efficiently without leaving streaks behind.
Ensure you have swept off all the water while scrubbing. To make your work easier.
Now get on your hands and knees and hand washes the floor. Here you will use the disinfected water. To rinse off the soapy water.
Vinegar is a versatile ingredient that does everything. From shining mirrors to making pickles taste tart. It is also useful for cleaning most types of flooring.
It is gentle enough not to damage factory finishes. Yet strong enough to remove dirt and grime. From finished hardwood, vinyl, laminate, and porcelain tile.
When you add a little soap and baking soda to the mix, your homemade cleaner becomes more effective.
Mostly I eyeball the baking soda and the vinegar. After washing your house for a while, you know how much of each will be enough.
However, 2 tablespoons of distilled white vinegar. And 1 cup of baking soda will do the trick. Add them into soapy water. You can either opt to put the mix in a spray bottle. Or use it from a bucket of water.
This mixture is suitable for floors with spills and mishaps present. Just be cautious when applying strong vinegar solutions. Especially to finish hardwood as it can damage the finish if left for too long.
Some types of flooring don’t go well with the use of vinegar. When used regularly. This includes other travertine, marble, and limestone.
While cleaning your hands and knees is efficient. Over time it might be a problem if you get back and knee problems.
Most mops and steamers have pads. They are at the bottom, which touches the floor. Normally they can come off and go into the washing machine. Whereas in the hot cycle, you can sanitize.
During a deep cleaning, you get to walls in the bathroom or kitchen. Use a microfiber cloth. It will eliminate any dirt and dust on your tile’s surface.
Many people don’t realize that before using a heavy-duty tile cleaner. It’s a good idea to mop down your floors with some warm water. Which will help protect your grout.
Don’t forget to wear your gloves when using heavy-duty tile cleaners. Make sure you follow the instructions on the back of your tile cleaner.
For any tough marks on the floor. Use a scourer that is suitable for your tiles. Pop into the solution and scrub the tiles.
Avoid walking on the tiles until they are dry. To maintain your tiles and to make them look fresh. Make sure you clean them regularly.
If you don’t get all the dirt off the floor before you get it wet. Then you just turn all that dirt into mud. You then get to smear all over the floor while mopping or wiping.
Ceramic tile is not porous. Ceramic tile is no different from glass from a cleaning perspective. It can be cleaned very effectively just by wiping it down.
On the other hand, grout is rough and porous. It can be very difficult to get the dirt out of it once it gets a hold.
So sometimes, when wiping the tile floor clean. You might be pushing the mud into the grout. This is why it’s important to sweep before cleaning with water.
Mops can only hold so much dirt before they start to smear the excess all over the floor, whether using an old string mop, the maxi pad mops, or the microfiber one. They all have the same liability.
To solve this, frequently change the water you are using and the mops whenever they get old. And use a neutral tile cleaner.
A neutral tile cleaner is neither acidic nor alkaline. Anything not neutral can cause a residue build-up on the floor, which can be very difficult to clean.
Prevent dirt and damage to your newly cleaned floors by putting doormats outside and inside exterior doors. To cut down on dust and moisture trapped in.
Putting down rugs in high-traffic areas will also help keep the wood floors with no scratches.
Microfibre towels hold water better. They can easily be washed and reused, which is economical and eco-friendly.
If you have a hardwood floor, avoid having extra water on it because it can easily discolor.
It is also possible that the water might seep between the cracks. And either warps the floorboards. Or ruin the glue that is inside.
When cleaning it, you first dust it. Then use a damp cloth to wipe.
A steamer is designed to be used when it’s wet. It has an attachment that is plugged in. So it’s electric.
It shoots hot water into the floor. So when you are mopping the floor, it does it very quickly.
In any busy household, the floors can start to look dirty very fast. But at the same time, you don’t want to be like Cinderella scrubbing the floors all the time.
To keep your house clean, always sweep up any debris at the end of each day. Then get a floor cleaner and a rug. Use it to wipe the traffic areas.
For most stains on your tiles, all you have to do is pour lemon juice on them. Let it sit for five minutes. But do not let the lemon juice dry. So pour it generously.
Then take a small brush or an old toothbrush to scrub the stain. After that, rinse with warm water and a microfiber cloth.
For tougher stains, mix the lemon juice with salt. Let it sit for three or four hours before scrubbing it.
In the end, clean your house without a mop. You will need a microfiber cloth. The detergents you use are also important. As well as how often you clean the floors.
