How to Clean an Infrared Grill
Just like any other machine, your grill also needs some TLC to perform well long-term. Before you start grilling, it is essential to learn how to clean and season your grill.
The basics of cleaning infrared grills are the same as that for any conventional grill – surface cleaning and seasoning – but take extra caution when cleaning the infrared surface. In this post, we’ll explain how to clean and season your infrared grill.
Things You Need
- A grill wire brush or steel wool
- Non- abrasive grease cleaner
- A soft washcloth or paper towel
- Spray bottle with any high-heat cooking oil such as canola oil or peanut oil
Easiest Way to Clean an Infrared Grill
- After use, turn the burners to high for 10 minutes and cover the grill to burn off gunk accumulated during cooking to ash. Turn off the heat.
- When warm to touch, scrub both sides of the grate to remove food debris with a wire brush if it is metal. If the grill is cast-iron or porcelain, use the steel wool to prevent surface damage.
- Remove the grate to expose the infrared surface. Whether the infrared surface is metal, glass or ceramic scrape the ash and food debris gently using the steel wool.
- Dust or wipe off the debris on the tray at the bottom of the grill as this debris can cause a fire hazard.
- Spray the infrared surface and grate with a non-abrasive grease cleaner and wait for 5 minutes. Wipe off the rest of the grease with a clean cloth until clean.
- Spray high-heat cooking oil to prevent rusting.
How Often Should I Clean an Infrared Grill?
An infrared grill should be cleaned after every use to avoid grease build-up, which affects its function over time. The infrared slots are tiny; therefore, leaving the cooking grill dirty is not an option.
How Do I Season My Infrared Grill?
Seasoning your grill is the process of oiling and heating your grill before and after use. It helps to prevent rusting and makes cleaning easier. Follow the steps below:
- Before using the grill, spray some high-heat cooking oil on the grates and infrared emitters.
- Wipe off excess oil with a paper towel leaving a thin and even distribution of the oil.
- Light the grill and heat it for about 15 minutes, until the grates begin to smoke and turn dark.
